Sea of Cortez Wildlife Voyage

Explore the islands and coast between La Paz and Loreto as you cruise aboard the Mechudo. On this voyage of discovery, you'll share some of the same experiences Steinbeck recorded in his book, "The Log from the Sea of Cortez."

The Sea of Cortez is both the earth's youngest and richest sea. The waters teem with countless invertebrate species, over 650 tropical and temperate fish reside here year round, and one-third of the world's species of whales and dolphins are seasonal residents.

The goal of this expedition is to observe the magnificent blue whale, the largest living creature on earth. Reaching over 100 feet in length, the sheer grandeur of these leviathans will utterly bedazzle you.

You'll snorkel in waters where arrays of wondrous tropical fish thrive. The birdlife in the Sea of Cortez is spectacular and many tropical seabirds are common. Magnificent Frigate Birds, Brown and Blue Footed Boobies, Brown Pelicans, Heerman's Gulls, Yellow Footed Western Gulls, Royal and Elegant Terns, Storm-petrels and the rare Red-billed Tropic Birds c an all be found here and add to the excellent diversity of this expedition.

The Mechudo is an award-winning catamaran, designed by Robertson and Caine, one of the world’s leading charter boat builders. Built in 1998 in South Africa, this 4500 model has four cabins with double bed, each with their own private head and shower, and air conditioning is available day & night.

There is a large galley up front with a saloon and seating, and a large seating and dining area outside, under the canvas bimini. The width of the boat allows for plenty of deck space and one can always find a quiet, private spot. Aft there is a wide walkway across the boat and steps down for easy water access.

The boat sails incredibly well, is very stable and is equipped with complete electronics and high powered engines, giving great performance and reliability under power as well as sail.

You will have time to experience the many faces of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a treasure of the natural world.
