Whale Watching Expeditions
Baja Expeditions offers many options for experiencing Baja’s wildlife and natural history – some expeditions move along the coasts and among the islands of the Sea of Cortez, and others base out of one of our two eco camps, one in the Pacific’s San Ignacio Lagoon and the other on Espiritu Santo Island near La Paz. We have specialized in nature travel, intentional tourism, wildlife monitoring and citizen science since the 1970s. Join us to explore and help preserve our seas and coastlines, and all the species that inhabit them!

Cruising Aboard Catamaran "El Mechudo"
The first artisanal fishermen explored the Sea of Cortez under oar and sail; aboard the Catamaran El Mechudo, we take great pleasure in running expeditions that take advantage of the consistent seasonal wind patterns in the sea. The Sea of Cortez is often described as one of the places a sailing cruiser must visit! Our 45-foot sailing Catamaran El Mechudo can be chartered for your group, and you can design the perfect expedition for you. El Mechudo has cruised thousands of nautical miles in the sea, often helping out area researchers and inviting guests to join in as citizen scientists. Design your own route out of La Paz or a bit further south from Loreto, with a fully certified captain, crew and guide to make the most of your time on the sea.
Espiritu Santo Island Eco-Camp
Our Espíritu Santo Island Eco Camp offers comfortable amenities in a natural protected area and is an idyllic spot for you to enjoy a customized itinerary designed by you and your group. You select your trip dates, length, itinerary, and type and level of activity. Using the camp as a base, choose from each day's possible adventures: kayaking in a paddler's paradise, hiking up desert canyons, or swimming and snorkeling with playful California sea lions and schools of tropical fish.

Sea & Sierra Expeditions
Getting back to our roots of exploring the Sierras, we put together new expeditions this season, partnering with our colleagues at Rancho Cacachilas. Choose an expedition that lets you explore the stark and stunning contrasts of Baja California — the sea and the Sierra. You will visit our eco camp at Espiritu Santo Island and enjoy water and island exploration, then get a quick taste of ranch life in the Sierra Cachachilas just outside La Paz and near El Sargento, where you can hike, mountain bike ride, savor organic garden flavors and fresh local cheeses and learn about new research efforts.
