Espiritu Santo Island & Rancho Cacachilas

This expedition lets you enjoy both of Baja California's distinct magical worlds - you will divide your 7 days and 6 nights the Sea and the Sierra!  Our Espíritu Santo Island Eco Camp offers comfortable amenities in a Natural Protected Area. Each day brings new adventures: kayak in a paddler's paradise, hike up desert canyons, or swim and snorkel with schools of tropical fish.

Our founder Tim Means played a key role, together with a supportive community, in orchestrating the designation of the island group as a natural protected area. We hold the first and, to date, one of the very few minimum-impact base camp permits, and you may have neighbors down the beach including local school groups supporting ecology and conservation projectsa portion of the proceeds from your expedition goes to support this local programming.

In our Sierra section, you will be transported from La Paz up to the sites at Rancho Cacachilas, and for 4 days will be led by our knowledgeable guides so you can learn about the cultural, mining, and natural history of the Sierra Cacachilas. Each of the days will allow you to hike and explore different trails and sites. Also enjoy wine and cheese tastings, and sample fare from the organic gardens of the working ranches of Rancho Cacachilas. Also learn about research efforts in partnership with San Diego Museum of Natural History.
