Island Sea Kayaking

Explore remote and uninhabited islands on this moderate to challenging trip. Accompanied by our motorized support vessel, you’ll experience the diverse natural history of Espiritu Santo, San Jose, and Catalana islands. These paddling routes run North from La Paz to Loreto. This expedition lets you paddle along diverse coastlines of the Mechudo Corridor, and offers hiking, snorkeling, and exploring at each location before setting off again.

At Isla Espiritu Santo, you can snorkel with sea lions as graceful in the water as dancers, visit with local fisherman at El Pardito and explore the mangrove estuaries that are home to myriad nesting seabirds and hatching fish. Rugged shorelines, the landscapes of headlands, and deep bays make each day a new adventure in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Baja Expeditions founder Tim Means played a key role, together with a supportive community, in orchestrating the designation of Espíritu Santo Island group as a natural protected area. We hold the first and, to date, one of the very few minimum-impact base camp permits, and you may have neighbors down the beach including local school groups supporting ecology and conservation projects.

Morning walks up the arroyos offer the chance to enjoy the buzz of hummingbirds’ wings and the melodies of songbirds. On the water, you might be lucky enough to encounter blue, fin, or humpback whales, especially during the months of March and April. Your naturalist guide will paddle alongside you sharing local knowledge during these active, fun-filled days.
