Whale Shark Day Research

Whale sharks are the largest fish in the ocean and can be found in the temperate waters of the Bay of La Paz; El Mogote's sand spit is like a nursery for young sharks. You can enjoy the giant whale sharks from the boat or jump right in — as long as you don't make a splash because we don't want to startle the sharks! As you snorkel, you will be mesmerized by the way they enjoy a good cleaning by fish and remora that can be seen along their ventral sides as they hover and filter the plankton from the rich water for hours.

Join us on a 3-hour journey to experience these gentle giants as they feed, while you support the work of the local scientists gathering important data for the sharks' protection; we partner with Whale Shark México and Pelagios Kakunjá for research. You might be asked to record data like GPS location or water temperature, or maybe help with measurements and photo identification. Your work helps local sharks and their long-term care!  An additional portion of the proceeds from your expedition goes to support local environmental education and conservation research programming.
