On this voyage first pioneered by John Steinbeck in the “The Log from the Sea of Cortez” experience an abundance and diversity of wildlife unique to the Gulf of California and protected islands. Ecologists attest that the Sea of Cortez may be the richest body of water in the world, with more than 800 species of marine invertebrates and fish.
Observe frigate bird colonies, whale migrations, dolphin pods, and migrating mobula rays leaping by the hundred´s in front of the boat. Snorkel with a breeding colony of more than 200 California sea lions. Kayak or paddle board over abundant coral rock reefs. These islands make up a protected archipelago designed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we will hike and find the most impressive 360 views of the region.
Baja Expeditions natural guides and expert crew will lead through the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez aboard El Mechudo, a 45 – foot catamaran. This sailboat is perfect for families, friends, and small groups up to 8 people. Our experienced crew will cater to your every wish, making your vacation truly memorable and unique. 
El Mechudo was designed by the award winning craftsmen at Robertson and Caine and is equipped with four elite state cabins. Each cabin has a comfortable double bed and bathroom (head). Two of the cabins also include a single V-berth. The galley and salon offer round-table seating, with air conditioning perfect for sharing stories and experiences over a glass of wine or cold beer.
Choose a book from our library to read some stories about the history and magic of Baja California Peninsula or try to identify that the endemic plant you witnessed flowering on one of the remote islands. Magical sunsets and sunrises await you under the large covered dining area outside. Aft, a wide walkway crosses the boat and swim steps make for easy water access. Dual engines afford great performance and reliability under power as well as sail.
Your expert naturalist guide will identify different wildlife species observed during the day and explain the colorful plankton bioluminescence that maybe seen at night. Customized Charter Cruises
Trip fee: $2250 per night up to 8 passengers, minimum 3 nights.
2013 Flexible dates: Your group can charter El Mechudo anytime of year based on availability and weather conditions.
All prices in U.S. Dollars. Park fee of $25 per person and crew gratuities of 10-12% are not included in this price.
Conditions: A non-refundable 20% deposit is required to reserve space on the boat.
Final balance is due 60 days prior to departure date.
