Pacific Gray Whales (Self Arrival)
San Ignacio Lagoon is a whale watcher’s paradise, as the Pacific gray whales make their annual migration south from the Arctic to these protected waters to mate and calve. The lagoon forms part of the Vizcaino Reserve, the largest Natural Protected Area in Latin America. Our programming supports local research efforts to learn about and protect gray whales and their habitat. Questions? Contact us
Self-arrival or fly-in, you will enjoy the same quality services. You drive yourself to San Ignacio Lagoon, arriving at 10 a.m. Accommodations and meals are the same as for the guests flying in. There are 3 to 4 whale-watching excursions per day, in which you'll go into the lagoon to observe and interact with the gray whales as they spy hop, breach and nurture their young. The stay also includes opportunities for nature walks and kayaking and bird watching in the mangrove estuaries. Our naturalists and guides will help you get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience and learn more about the importance of our planet's large mammals like the gray whales. Questions?
