Open Water Swimming Expedition at Espiritu Santo
Your own coach, crystal clear waters, and you – swimming in the protected waters of Espiritu Santo Island, a World Heritage Site and nature reserve.
Open to all ages and experience levels, join us on a unique open water swimming adventure to explore Espiritu Santo. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Gulf of California, Isla Espiritu Santo feels delightfully off-grid, despite being only 18 miles north of La Paz. Our founder, Tim Means, saved this beautiful island from commercial development, and arranged for its donation to the people of Mexico as a national park. As such, there are no permanent residents on the island, and we hold one of the very limited minimum-impact base camp permits.
“We did a swim trip on Espiritu Santo island and the camp and boats were run by Baja Expeditions. The food and service were top notch. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend them highly.”
– Rexyten, Mountain View, California
Using our beachfront camp as a base, you’ll swim past craggy rocks and dramatic cliffs, honeyed sandy beaches, remote coves and islands; play with California sea lions and glide over schools of tropical fish – keeping your eyes peeled for pods of dolphins and mobula rays. Our support skiff accompanies you all the way, and you can swim as much or as little as you like.
In between swims, Isla Espiritu Santo is packed with adventure. Hike wild, cacti-studded landscapes, kayak and paddleboard to hidden lagoons and secret caves, snorkel and scuba dive, or simply relax on the beach with a cold drink handed by our hostess and a good book in hand. You will also enjoy delicious catered snacks prepared with fresh local ingredients. Perfect for swimmers who are looking to escape from ordinary life in a pristine remote location, this expedition is available from October to November.
