Liveaboard Sea of Cortez

Liveaboard diving means flexibility, range, and comfort that smaller day boats can’t touch. You really can see it all whether it’s a Baja ultimate whale trip, a private charter with your own itinerary, a dive adventure that optimizes your experience, or a bespoke adventure deep into the northern Sea of Cortez. Our mission, our passion, is to provide safety and excellence in guest experience in the fragile beauty and complex marine life that is the Sea of Cortez.

Baja Expeditions built and launched the legendary 80 ft Don José 44 years ago as one of the first liveaboard boats in the world and the legend continued with the Baja Explorador, Copper Sky, and then the Nautilus Explorer. We are proud to currently offer a fleet of sleek, black-hulled liveaboards including the 116 ft expedition yacht Gallant Lady, 45 ft luxury sailing catamaran Mango Wind and the more budget-conscious 55 ft Westerly.

Sea of Cortez

Imagine loads of playful California sea lions all over you, a huge school of big eye jacks storming divers, schools of skipjacks, turtles, tuna and a wide variety of fish. Sharks, shipwrecks and giant mantas if we are lucky. Beach walks. Water temps and visibility rising to mid-80’s by September and vis +100-ft. With seas often so calm that it seems like your yacht is barely moving. This is the Sea of Cortez in peak diving season from July to November.

Dive Your Own Way – With or Without a Divemaster

We cater to the entire spectrum of diving ability and experience. Experienced divers are welcome to explore most of our dive sites at their own pace without a divemaster.*

*Divers are required to be guided by a divemaster in national parks
