Captain’s Noon Reports – Mango Wind– 2023-05-26

Yesterday was a good morning sighting of the mobulas in Bajia de los Muertos and Punta Arenas. There was communication on the radio of a pod of sperm whales in front of Punta Perico so the panga went out and found them. The guests had a really good encounter with the sperm whales this entire trip.

There wasn’t much wind so we put up the Genoa and sailed 2 nm before the guests were ready to go back in the panga. They went out to look for the whales but didn’t find them anymore so they only saw some dolphins and turtles on the surface. We anchor at Punta Arenas for the night it was a nice anchor with nice wind. The water temp was 76F, visibility 40ft, and calm sea, with not much wind.

This morning we left from Punta Arenas to La Partida for anchor tonight as there is going to be a strong West wind so we are on the E side. We will be heading to do 2 dives early in the morning and then go out to Isla Ballena to look for whales or critters.
